The idea came from the Mora Figueroa family, owner of Arcos Gardens in Arcos de la Frontera and the mayer of Barbate Rafael Quirós was very content with it. The family Mora and the townhall of Barbate formed the company Bahía Trafalgar S.L. to be able to use the rivermouth of Barbate for touristique purposes. The idea is very ambitious as the Mora family wants to construct a port called Marinas del Río Barbate form where boats can enter into a luxury touristic complex in the area now called Parahe del Bujar which is situated on the south end of the Barbate river, just between the village and the Sierra del Retín mountain.

In this luxury complex, an 18 holes golf course will be constructed along with a 5-star deluxe hotel and a commercial center. The mayer of Barbate declared that it will be absolutely impossible to construct houses because of environmental issues and also confirmed that he knows it will be a long and difficult project which will probably take between 4 and 6 years.
