Rota, Cadiz, Costa de la Luz, Andalucia, Spanien
Just outside the village of Chipiona after a nice drive through the lowlands of Cádiz you will find this 27 holes seaside course. Costa Ballena Golf is a design of José Maria Olazábal and was opened in June 1997. The course is just like Sherry Golf a venue of the European Tour for the Pre Qualifications. With its small undulated greens and well placed greenside bunkers the course is attractive and challenging for every kind of player. The greens are normally fast and grainy which make your putter one of the most important clubs in your bag. From a few holes you have a great view at the can see the Atlantic Ocean (hole 12, 13, 14 old course). Because of its seaside location the wind plays a big role and can change the course dramatically. Mind the 10th tee on the old course for its difficult tee shot and well protected green!
Costa Ballena has great practice facilities like a driving range of 345 wide and 350 m long where you can hit from grass all year long, even during the night! To practice your short game you can use the huge pitching green included with greenside bunkers and different hitting areas. This of course is one of the reasons the European Tour celbrates its qualifying school here since 2004.
From the beautifull clubhouse with its enormous terrace and garden you can watch people practicing their game on the range while you are enjoying the great food the restaurant of Costa Ballena serves.
